Rankin/Bass' Frosty The Snowman

"Frosty the Snowman" remains one of the most popular Christmas songs, despite never mentioning Christmas at all. Written by Jack Rollins and first recorded by Gene Autry, the song has been covered dozens of times over the years and inspired several television specials.

The most popular of those specials would be Rankin/Bass' version from 1969. It starred Jimmy Durante as the narrator and Jackie Vernon as Frosty. This was the very first traditionally animated special by RB, and its drawing style (done by future MAD Magazine regular Paul Coker, Jr.) lived on in every subsequent cel-animated special by the producers.

The special originally aired on CBS on December 7, 1969.
